There’s something that fucks me up especially hard about the lyric of “I’d kill myself to hold you one more time”. That teenage idea of mortality, that your life is not as meaningful as this pain. But as the album continues, Ethel comes face to face with that mortality. She dies so young and so tragically that I have to believe that line was intentionally there to juxtapose the rest of the album. Fuck. This album is a masterpiece.
